holiday markets

Our first European Christmas market experience was many years ago  in Prague, Czech Republic, Our second was Dublin, Ireland, then Paris and London.  It was awesome we were hooked.  Since then Christmas markets have sprung up in New York so we can get our Christmas market fix without crossing the pond.  Of course my goal is to visit as many European Christmas markets as I can.  We were able to hit many markets when we traveled over Thanksgiving 2015. Germany has some of the best Christmas markets in the world so we were excited to experience them.  We were not disappointed.  We spent four days in Cologne basically just eating and drinking.  Okay, Three museums and then all eating and drinking.  Very, Very festive and fun eating and drinking.    Christmas trees, glittering lights, ice rinks, Christmas carols, cold wet snow, cold wet rain and sleet, just plain cold.  but seriously fun.  Memories last to hopefully last a lifetime.

A trip to Germany around Christmas time isn't complete until you have visited a Christmas market and Cologne had plenty.

I had a cup of hot wine or hot chocolate in my hand pretty much the entire time we were in cologne.

This was absolutely delicious

This was angelica's favorite.  The Salmon was then cut and put onto a kind of sandwich.

There were so many choices of food, from bratwurst, raclette, stollen, pretzels and countless others.

yes, I will take more please

You purchase the cup for 2.50 then just have it filled at every opportunity.  When you are done they will buy back the cup or you can keep it as a souvenir.

Need to get warm and have a cold one, no problem

Gluhwein = hot spiced wine

Angelica purchased a hot egg nog with whipped cream only to find out that it has alcohol in it.  So I ended up with a very delicious drink.  That I wasn't aware existed.  Never once have I thought to have hot Egg nog.

The Christmas angel arrives on horseback

The cookies are shaped like the famous DOM Cathedral

heibe Schokolade = hot chocolate  then  you can add , rum, amaretto or baileys and whipped cream

The one London Christmas Market that we visited had  great cocktails and a more glittery, contemporary vibe.
